Frequently Asked Questions
Here is some helpful information that provides answers to
frequently asked questions about self storage.
Getting Started
Unit size - A quick assessment in the number of rooms
of furniture is a good method to determine the size that's right
for you. Even portions of rooms work, i.e. ½ a living room,
½ a bedroom, kitchen & bathroom items = two rooms worth.
Length
of stay - Storing for six months or less puts a greater
importance on quick, easy access, preferably drive up access,
without hallways to navigate, or elevators to use. Longer term
rentals makes pricing the bigger issue. Our second level units
are priced lower, with large access ways to the elevator. Since
you're only going to move in once, the additional time it takes
will save you money on each month you stay.
Climate controlled - Some items must be temperature/humidity
regulated, but for the most part it's just a matter of preference.

When to start - Reserve early. One to two weeks
guarantees a choice of units, though we are Bordentown’s
newest, we always have something available. Plan ahead, truck
rentals are seasonal and there're most used on weekends. We have
access till eleven every night so you can move during the week.
Visit the site - office hours are from 8 am to
6 pm Monday thru Saturday. We will show you the space that's right
for you. Our knowledgeable staff is here to help. With experience

Helpful Hints
Weather - check the weather
for moving day. Move during the week- trucks are more readily
available on weekdays rather than weekends.
Packing supplies - make your storing easier and less
time consuming while you protect your property with a variety
of items. Prepare your furniture- wax the wood, cover the fabrics,
oil the metal (3 in 1 with rag). If you can't box it, bag it.
If you can't bag it, cover it (see our storage supplies). Always
put your largest items in first.
Used clothing - clothing stored for more than 1 year
can yellow. Thoroughly wash, fold and if possible, vacuum seal.
This will prevent enzymes form attacking your clothing.
Refrigerators - must be defrosted and cleaned. Frost
free will need 3 days, otherwise a puddle will form in your unit.
Also, make sure the doors are open!
Food - DO NOT STORE FOOD! Even spices can attract bugs!
Be sure all kitchen equipment is clean.
Your Unit, Your Property - All too often our customers
store things for other people- If they don't want it now, they
won't want it later. If they really want it, let them get their
own unit.
Automatic Credit card Payments - Never rely on others
to take care of your unit for you. If you are going overseas,
simply E-mail or Call us in advance and we can charge your credit
card.
File Storage - When archiving files, always use file
storage boxes. Label them and don't forget destroy dates. Never
stack more than 5 high and use shelving if possible.
Climate Control - Antiques, artwork, pianos are some
of the items best stored in climate controlled units. Any items
that are sensitive to temperature & humidity changes should
also be stored in climate controlled units.
Insurance - while you store here, you may be covered
under your homeowners policy or your apartment rental insurance.
Call your agent to find out. If your insurance does not provide
you with the coverage you need, insurance is available thru Deans
and Homer. Information on this is available at there website:
